Delivering on digital transformation

Whitehall’s thinking has already moved from the aftermath of the General Election towards the Spending Review, but those working in government and the wider public sector know that whatever the outcome, digital transformation will still be a key enabler for the savings George Osborne hopes to make.

The fact is that we will continue to see a government that centres on the role of the citizen in terms of the quality of their interactions with government as a digital user.

The Government Digital Service focus has moved on from the last Parliamentary term’s digital exemplars towards starting to build and deliver Government as a Platform. So how might Government as a Platform evolve? Arguably it brings a common infrastructure platform which should embrace common services that can be used in a flexible manner, with multiple departments – and/or local government.

So far these common services or platforms have been mooted for payments, appointments, status-tracking, publishing, and identity assurance, among others. Others will no doubt emerge.

This Government Computing dinner on September 23rd at Christopher's Bar and Grill, in association with IBM, will examine how the public sector in general, and Whitehall departments in particular, are progressing their digital transformation journey ‘at pace’: defining that transformation, and also working out its impact.

We’ve learned that digital transformation is essential, it’s a reality, and as users, we have expectations about our digital experience. But what else do we need to learn – about complexity, and about modernising legacy perhaps?

It promises to be a great evening, with lively debate in a convivial setting. Attendance is entirely free of charge but spaces are limited, so please register today. We look forward to welcoming you.

Situated in the heart of Covent Garden, Christopher’s is established as one of London’s prime American restaurants. It’s newly refurbished spaces recall the heady-glamour of the Modern American era, and our dining event takes place in the private ‘Club Room’ on the lower ground floor.
